Amazing Lightning Show

No, I don’t have pictures. Instead I have a rant…

The most assinine thing I’ve ever seen - lightning knocked out a traffic light here in town… almost. Three directions were red, the fourth was solid green. Eventually everyone realizes it’s red, but since it’s only 3 directions, you can’t treat it as a 4 way stop very effectively. Instead, the people trying to cross or turn across the green side are stuck risking their lives pulling out in front of traffic in heavy rain, while the people in the lane opposite the green light sit waiting for you, only to give up as soon as there’s an opening and run the light, leaving you stuck to repeat the process… To make matters worse, the people behind those people who get fed up and run the light, instead of waiting… run it too. 3, 4, 5, 10 cars pass. Then another 5, including a city cop… Then another 3 or 4, before someone finally stops to let you try once more to turn.

What the fuck is that? Can you tell me, please? And it’d have been really nice if the cop had stopped and tried to manually flip the light (control box is right there, fella), or stopped to direct traffic like a real civil servant. Does he? Of course not, it’s raining… That’s the postal service, buddy. Instead, he’ll just run the light with the mass of other cars doing it, rather than treating it as the 4-way stop it’s supposed to be. Hey, who tickets cops? God knows if it’d been me running the light, he’d have stopped me in the rain to scold me… to the tune of $400, I’m sure.

Here’s to the US Government… broken from the top down.

No Wonder I Haven’t Gotten Any Email

As surprising as it is, there are days in which I don’t get any email (other than SPAM, which gets filtered away out of my sight). Add to that the fact that I was horribly busy yesterday, and I suppose it’s understandable why I didn’t notice until just now…

Looks like GoDaddy decided to reset the nameservers on my doesnthaveone.com domain to one of their defaults when I added it to my CashParking service. They didn’t TELL me they were going to reset the name servers, and DID tell me to go in and change them to point to their two special nameservers.

So for the past 48 hours, I’ve gotten no email on my primary account. Lovely.

Fuck GoDaddy…

UPDATE: I just added another domain, and got the following message:

Note: domains managed through GoDaddy will have their name servers updated automatically.

Select OK to continue, or Cancel and remove domains you do not wish to change.

Looks like I’m not the only one who’s bitched about this… Now they warn you.

The One Thing I Can Never Seem to Find…

You know what the one thing I can never seem to find when I’m looking for it?

A mini-USB cable. You know, the one with the regular end on one side and that freakish little trapezoid end on the other? I can never find one of the damn things…

Like today. I bought a Motorola Razr V3c from Verizon. Well, I want to hook it up to my PowerBook using the built-in USB port. Unfortunately, I can’t find a damn mini cable. I know I have to have one around here somewhere, but damned if I know where. It’s not in any of the regular boxes such a cable would be in…

To Arms, My Monkey-Loving Friends!

Imagine my unbridled glee when I got to work this morning after class, revved up NetNewsWire, and saw this:

Security Monkey Posts

Any Monday that starts off with a new Security Monkey blog entry can’t be all bad. His chimpy goodness hath been bestowed on me, and that was like an omen, telling me that the rest of the day was going to be alright.

Boy, those skies clouded up really quick:

ITToolbox Blogs are Dead

Oh, the humanity… How can they do this to me? Some IIS-loving BOFH at ITToolbox needs to be FIRED for farking up their blogs. This transgression shall not stand, I tell you!

To arms, my monkey-loving friends, to armmmssss! We shall storm the castle and force them to give us their monkey secrets! They can’t stop us, I tell you! Victory and bannannas shall be ours!

Greg Reinacker’s Holding Out on Me!

I was checking out my Mint stats for this blog, and noticed that NetNewsWire was less than 1% of the traffic to it, which wasn’t particularly surprising, since I figured I was probably the only reader using it. I randomly decided to check the versions, when I discovered this:

Mint User Agents - NetNewsWire 2.1

If you’ll notice on the NetNewsWire website, the latest release version is 2.0.1, which I am using and which represents the greatest portion of hits for NNW. Well then, what’s this mysterious version 2.1 that is in use (likely in some bright and sun-filled corner office at the brand-new NewsGator headquarters)?

Back at the beginning of January, Greg said there would be a syncing version of NNW in a few weeks. Looks like there is a syncing version in existence, and it’s being used to read my blog! Quit holding out on me, Greg, I need my groovy new features!! :D
