A Bin or a Bucket?

I need a name consultation from anyone who happens to see this post in the near future…

You’re dumping a bunch of random stuff somewhere. Is it a bin or a bucket?

I would personaly just call it a junk drawer or a floorboard. If it is a choice between the two, though, I would have to go with “bucket”.

    It depends really.

Physically, a bin is usually a square or a rectangle. Straight sides and all.

A bucket is your average cylinder shaped device with an open (or can be opened) end.

Buckets are normally big but can be small.

Those little parts bins you get at Lowes are indeed bins. In that general area, you should be able to find 1 and 5 gallon buckets.

Like Tom said, you also have your floorboard stash of crap, and your junk drawer. Honorable mention is that pile of shit in the middle of the floor…that’s referred to as a pile.

If you are throwing it away it’s a bin.

    Otherwise it’s a container…

    Ordinarily I’d say it’s /tmp but I don’t think that’s the answer you want here :P

If I had to choose between the two, I’d go with “bucket” as well.
