I was a medic in the Army, and I worked with many many doctors on a daily basis (I would guess about 100,150).
When I read your conversation, I know it was going to get a bit ugly from the very first sentence you said.
this is what your Doctor heard:
"I just spoke to my pharmecist .. blah ...you should increase my dosage ..".
Now, doctors don't think very highly on pharmecists. for them they are just the people who are supposed to do the dirty work of giving you the medicin they write down for you, and explain some things about it to you.
they are not supposed to create more work for them, but to take away the work.
so, at this moment, your doctor thinks:
this guy does not respect me, and he does not understand who call the shots (or pills :).
you also pissed him a little by saying that you decide to take 10mg instead of 5mg on your own, again because its he think (and he is right about it) that its his call.
now, read the conversation again, and I think you will have a better understanding why your doctor was a jerk.

At least I wasn't blowing it out of proportion into something that wasn't actually called for...

Unfortunately, finding a doctor you really like is tough to do... Finding one that you really like and who doesn't have a 6 month wait for an appointment or keep you waiting for 5 hours when you get there is nearly impossible. I switched to this guy because my last one was afraid to ever prescribe anything for fear that I'd get hooked on something and sue him.

I think I'll try and stick this out and see if anything similar happens in the future. Maybe this is just a personality trait I need to keep in mind: Don't have anyone else call the doctor, he'll feel threatened and become a royal asshole.

I'd still go find another doctor who isn't such an asshole, either way.
