Pumpkin Case Mod Coolness

When we were designing our iPumpkin at work, we thought it’d have been really cool if we could mod the pumpkin (ie: carve it) and make a computer case out of it, with some spare parts laying around the office (it’s not like I’m not the SysAdmin or anything, right?).

Welp, looks like someone beat us to the idea:

Pumpkin Case Mod

By far the best part:

Then we carved the logo and inserted the board into the slot. The pumpkin meat makes very good rails.

Great stuff. I’d never have thought about putting fans in the eyes for cooling. And wouldn’t you want to seal the pumpkin with some sort of glossy stuff to prevent it from rotting with your computer equipment inside? Ah, well, I guess they weren’t looking for the uber-cool long-term pumpkin case mod…

Fire Scoble or Not?

I found it hilarious when Scoble posted about an author saying he should be fired…

I really wish we could see the video he talks about being passed around inside Microsoft. Hey Scoble, how about a Channel 9 exclusive?

As funny as the post was, the really great material comes in the comments:

Flickr Babes

I’m sure we’ve all heard about Flickr-Licious by now… They re-publish pictures of hot chicks found on Flickr…

So I was Googling, looking for… uhh, ok, fine… I was looking for porn… What do you want from me? I’m a single guy who’s got the day off! Porn’s a friggin given in that equation!

So I was Googling, looking for porn… Somehow as I hopped from site and search to search and site, I found this Flickr Babes post. Wow… It’s like a best-of index of Flickr Licious… Kinda like Fark is a best-of index of all the boring useless news I don’t care enough to read.

Either way, if you want to see some hot and some insanely cute chicks, those are two links you should be sure to follow… I know I plan on proposing to this one:

70 Free Songs From iTunes… wow!

UPDATE: Updated to remove a cut-and-paste SNAFU that had the first line… twice.

It was reported on Digg, so of course I saw it and checked it out quickly. At first I expted the 70 Free Songs From iTunes (iTunes link) to be a collection of the latest popular music that they wanted to give away to boost sales and get attention from people… well, like Digg, and the iTMS-using geeks therein.

Actually, it turns out that these 70 songs were from Stanford university. The Music Store describes them as:

A wide range of musical performances by Stanford students, faculty, staff, alumni and artists-in-residence.

Now, let’s ignore how incredibly cool this idea is in the first place. Sure it builds a huge community and gives all these guys some extra needed exposure… The real point is: some of these guys kick ass!

I quickly fell in love with several of these artists in the first few tracks. Songs like Impossible and Coffee by Avery Brown and A Starfish In The Front Yard and Fade by Chris Ayer had me captivated for hours listening to these amazing free tracks (4.6 hours to be precise).

If you’ve got some extra time to burn and want to find some really amazing music, be sure to check out this great collection from Stanford…

Add One More Thing to that List…

Since I’m keeping a list of all the crap I have to get done in the semi-near future, let’s go ahead and add one more:

Re-install test server’s OS.

The MySQL 5 upgrade went… less than successfully. Even using the simple RPMs to upgrade my Fedora Core 3 test box resulted in a total bomb. Great job there with a sucky release, MySQL…

Did I mention that MySQL 5.0 randomly broke all my auto-incrementing primary key fields on the Windows install I use on my laptop as well?

(Comic book store guy) Worst. Release. Evar!
