Ever wonder exactly what it takes to survive a Slashdotting? So have the rest of us, since many a site has died while trying… Thankfully, there’s finally someone who let’s us know exactly how to do it, using none other than WordPress (uhh, yes, that is what you’re reading this on…).
I’m somewhat skeptical because the author says he was running on a DSL line and that his server died. I would expect a Slashdotted site to be bandwidth deprived more than horsepower stressed. Perhaps he has one of those uber connections instead of your average everyday pathetic little connection like the rest of us…
Hat Tip: Weblogs Tool Collection
My server was more like uber, uber slow than being dead.. mostly because of all of the database calls. Once I got everything all cached and made a few other tweaks, I didn’t really have many problems. Also, the hardware my site used at the time was 6 years old…
Akk, the author speaks! It always scares me when people actually start noticing my posts…
So what kind of DSL connection did / do you have? I imagine I’d have a hard time keeping up with a Slashdotting on my 3 Mbps / 386 kbps DSL here at home, regardless of the server connected to it.
